Hole in the Roof Tour Diary - Eldorado - McEvoy Tavern 🎶

We rolled back into Eldorado and straight into the warm embrace of the McEvoy Tavern.

The journey there had already become part of the story. Near midnight we pulled off the road, parking the van beside the Big Submarine before calling it a night. A little road weary, we woke to a fresh morning in Holbrook.

The day began with an early yarn with Eddie from ABCSouthEasternNSW, who spun a track from our new EP, Hole in the Roof. It was a pretty magical way to open the road ahead and let these songs begin their journey.

We were especially looking forward to having Simons chops on the drums. He has a beautiful way of carving out the rhythms, and we love the dynamics that he brings to our sound.

Simon made the trip up from Melbourne to join us for the very first shows of the tour, and it felt so good to reconnect, to fall back into that old musical conversation and see where it wanted to wander.

He was right there at the heart of the new Hole in the Roof recordings, so bringing these songs into the live world felt like opening the studio door and letting them breathe. Taking something we’d been shaping together and giving it a heartbeat within the old walls of the McEvoyTavern.

As always, it was wonderful to see familiar faces alongside plenty of new ones. Old stories, new songs, and the beautiful chaos that happens when a community gathers around live music. Catching up with Angela Brauman and having her jump up to sing with us was an unexpected bonus that made the night even more special.

A huge thank you to Kelly, the Tavern crew, the Eldorado locals, the bonfire crew, and everyone who gathered around the flames, the songs, and the stories.

Somehow the May chill stayed away. Maybe it was the fire. Maybe it was the music. But mostly, we reckon, it was the people.

There wasn’t much time for a late night, though. The Bright Markets were calling at sunrise.

And that’s the magic of touring. It’s never just about the stages or the songs. It’s about the people you meet, the places that welcome you, and all those little moments that quietly dance between the notes.
